Now, let’s spend a little time, and Configure Self Service Portal 2.5 for use in the LAB. We already confirmed that the web portal is working correctly, so the next task is for us to logon to the interface with administrator privileges and configure the portal for our lab, and check that the integration with System Center Virtual Machine Manager is working correctly.

Now that we have a Dynamic Data Center infrastructure, we can now progress to the new level, and add the additional framework for implementing a Private Cloud. Using the infrastructure we have now implemented, I am going to take advantage of this framework and use Operations manager to deploy the new Virtual Machine which we will use for the Self Service Portal 2.5 code.

Time now to practice some magic. We have completed the process of deploying and Configuring both SCVMM and SCOM in our lab, which are the building blocks of creating a Dynamic Data Center. The next milestone on this journey is integrating these two amazing products so that they can share intelligence and help convert us from a “Managed Data Center” into a “Dynamic Data Center”

It is time to spin up another member of the System Center family. We have the sever ready for this after the configuration exercise we just completed with Virtual Machine Manager.

We are finally ready to start some work with the System Center tools, and the first one we have now completed the installation of is the Virtual Machine Manager. You will have completed the installation process in the previous post, and upon launching the interface there was nothing to see.

Great, Hyper-V works, SQL is ready, and we also have a Virtual Machine running which we will utilize for installing System Centre Virtual Machine Manager on.

We are making some nice progress, next stop on the trip is to organise a SQL Server for the Lab. I did a pretty detailed post a few months back on the process of installing SQL 2008 R2, so forgive me if I don’t retype all the instructions again.

12And now we start to get into the fun stuff. As we progress tough this post we are going to ensure that both of the VM hosts actually have Hyper-V installed; after all this is an important component of the Dynamic Data Centre.

Ok, we have the basic foundation now in place, the next stage for us will be the configuration of the shared disk for the Cluster.

Welcome back, at this point we should have 3 servers ready for our lab build which will each have received an installation of Windows 2008R2, had their network connections Patched up, and IP addresses assigned as per our plan.
